AFCON 2019: Amunike Speaks On Expectations For Semi Finals (Video)

Head Coach of the Tanzanian national team, Emmanuel Amunike has picked Egypt, Mali, Ivory Coast and Nigeriai as the sides that could make it to the semi-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON ) in Egypt.

Naijaparry reports that Nigerian-born Amunike was responding to a question by CAF Media on which teams he thinks will be the semi-finalists.

“It’s difficult to predict the semi-final,” he says.

“Actually, you cannot. But the truth is that you have the big house – Egypt. Egypt has a very good team. We saw Mali yesterday (against Tunisia). They are a very good side. Côte d’Ivoire also is a very good side. We have seen Nigeria. So, you can never really predict. It all depends on people you are going to play in your knockout stage. That defines whether you are making it to the semi-final or not.”

Amunike’s Tanzania are already eliminated from the AFCON after losing their two opening matches.

Meanwhile, Amunike has promised to find a way to motivate his side for their final AFCON Group C game against Algeria on Monday.

After their early disappointment in the competition, Amunike has vowed to encourage his players for their game against the Desert Foxes , who already qualified for the knockout stage.

“After losing our first two games, it will not be easy against Algeria when we see their strength, they have the highest morale,” Amuneke says in a pre-match press conference.

“We have to find ways to motivate ourselves to play this game but it’s not easy.”

Amunike also showered his praise on Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi.

“I think Belmadi is doing a good job. In modern football, it’s not important to play good football but to win. They won against Kenya and Senegal.”

The Taifa Stars will hope to claim their first ever victory in the biennial tournament when they play against Algeria at 30 June Stadium in Cairo.
