Nigerian Senate Proposes Bill To Establish Hate Speech Commission
The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday introduced a bill which seeks to establish a commission to check hate speech in Africa’s most populous country.
Naijaparry understands that the bill, titled National Commission for the Prohibition of Hate Speeches (Estb., etc) Bill 2019, has passed first reading on the floor of the Senate.
The bill, sponsored by former Senate spokesman Sabi Abdullahi, seeks to prevent the spreading and broadcasting of falsehood and manipulation using social media platforms via internet broadcasts and transmissions.
