Senate To Investigate Senator Abbo Over Assault Video
The Nigerian Senate has set up an ad-hoc committee to probe the lawmaker representing Adamawa -North, Senator Elisha Abbo, who was caught on camera assaulting a woman.
Naijaparry learned that the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, constituted the panel following a point of order raised by the Senator representing Kaduna Central, Uba Sani.
The Senate Leader, Abdullahi Yahaya; Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe; and Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, supported Sani by condemning the action of the Senator.
Lawan confirmed that he had been inundated with calls from concerned Nigerians within and outside the country asking the Senate to explain what happened.
The Senate President said it would be unfair on either the Senator or the assaulted lady if the Senate should pass a judgment immediately based on the viral video clip.
He, therefore, asked the ad hoc committee to probe the issue critically by inviting both parties and submit its report within two weeks.
Other members of the panel are, Senators Oluremi Tinubu, Mathew Urhoghide, Stella Oduah, Dauda Aliu Jika, Sani Musa, and Danladi Sankara.
Premium Times had published the video of the lawmaker hitting assaulting the woman at a Sex toy shop in the Wuse area of Abuja.
Although the video surfaced online on Tuesday, the incident was reported to have occurred on May 11, a month before Abbo, the youngest Nigerian senator, was sworn in.
Recall that Abbo on Tuesday confirmed that he was indeed the man in a viral video who was seen beating up a lady in a sex toy.
According to Channels Television, the Senator when contacted said that he would release an official statement in reaction to the assault video.
“We will be releasing statement maybe tomorrow afternoon,” he said, adding that the incident happened before he became a Senator.
However, the Senator claimed that the roughly 10-minute video was incomplete, claiming he was at the shop because his sister had been assaulted there and that part was left out.
