2019 AFCON: Why I’m Disappointed With Nigeria – Joseph Yobo
A former Super Eagles captain
Joseph Yobo has expressed disappointment over the allowance payment row by the team.
Naijaparry had reported that Gernot Rohr’s boys had threatened to go on a strike before their 1-0 win against Guinea at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) due to a non-payment of allowances.
However, the issue has been settled with President Muhammadu Buhari releasing funds for the team.
While reacting to the development, Yobo, a former Everton defender, noted that he thought monetary issues about the team had been settled before the AFCON.
“I am disappointed,” he said. “The team can be affected psychologically.
“I experienced this in my time as captain, but I also thought we had gone past that by now.
“I would have thought that all that had to do with money had been sorted out after the team had qualified for the AFCON.”
In a related development , Nigeria winger Moses Simon has said the competition for slots is one of the reasons he loves playing for the team.
The Levante man was on show for Gernot Rohr’s men as they saw off Guinea 1-0 in their second fixture at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
And Simon Moses who gave the assist for the goal on that day admitted that every player in the team puts in their best when called upon.
According to him, if any player does not live up to expectation, there is always someone ready to take their place.
“We all play in our clubs and we have a good relationship with each other and if you can see, everyone is fighting to play and that motivates the team because if you mess up, there is another one that can play,” he was quoted as saying by Brila FM.
