McMahon’s 1985 Bears squad, which won the team’s first Super Bowl championship in Super Bowl XX, was when he experienced the greatest level of professional achievement.
Throughout the season, he was also named to the Pro Bowl. McMahon, though, battled ailments for the rest of his career after sustaining a shoulder injury the following season.
McMahon played with the Chicago Bears for seven years before joining the San Diego Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, and Green Bay Packers.

McMahon gained notoriety for his theatrics both on and off the field during his career. The NFL commissioner at the time, Pete Rozelle, notoriously penalized him for wearing a headband with an unapproved business emblem (Adidas) while he was on the sidelines.
In addition, he is well-recognized for his distinctive sunglasses, which he wears for therapeutic purposes. He accidentally cut the cornea in his right eye at the age of six while using a fork to loosen a knot in a pretend pistol holster.
Despite the accident saving his vision, that eye is now very sensitive to light. He was one of the first players to use a helmet on the field with an eye-covering tinted plastic visor, earning him the nicknames “Darth Vader” and “Black Sunshine.”
McMahon encouraged former NFL quarterback David Carr to wear gloves since he occasionally wore them while playing.
